Does the following 8 day initerary sound reasonable?:
Day 1) Rome
Day 2) Rome
Day 3) Florence
Day 4) Florence/Pisa
Day 5) Cinque Terre
Day 6) Cinque Terre/Travel to Venice
Day 7) Venice
Day 8) Venice
Day 9) Flight out of Venice to States
I would skip Pisa and stay the full day in Florence. There isn't much to see but a tourist trap (which in a sick way I love) in Pisa. Otherwise looks reasonable and fun.
Michelle is inviting a rather spirited dialogue as to the value of Pisa. It has been discussed rather thoroughly with varying opinions; here is just one of the many discussions.
I think your itinerary is quite reasonable, but I hope you recognize that you will not be anything close to having fully experienced Rome, and even Florence or the Cinque Terre. As long as you are comfortable with a nice overview tour, this will do fine.
mary,
Your Itinerary seems fairly realistic, however be very sure that you allow adequate travel times between each city. The trip from the Cinque Terre to Venice is a bit longer, perhaps the better part of a day so that will cut into your touring time.
An alternative might be to go from Rome to the Cinque Terre (there's a direct train to La Spezia, 4 hours!), then Florence and finally Venice. It seems like a much more logical route. I'd probably skip Pisa but if that's important to you, stop for an hour or two and have a look at the Tower on the way from La Spezia to Florence.
Happy travels!
Thanks everyone! I appreciate your help. I have already been to Rome and Florence but my husband hasn't so I am kinda short changing them so I can have some new experiences too. I am not surprised that Pisa would be touristy but sometimes it is just cool to say you have seen something! I agree Rome to Cinque Terre is a better route.
