Late Night Venice Arrival

Hi All --

Hoping for a little help! We get into the Venice airport late at night (11:25pm); we have (4) nights in Venice total. I'd like to get to booking a hotel, but can't commit to anything until I know if I'll be able to get to the hotel the night we arrive or not -- without spending the big bucks on a private water taxi.

Option A (preferred) is to book 1 hotel for all 4 nights, let me know we'll be arriving late and just have to move baggage around one time. But with the late arrival, are there any vaparretos or alilagunas -- or anything else -- that serves Venice at that time of night?

Option B is to take a taxi/bus/etc. from the airport to Ple. Roma, find a hotel there for (1) night then move our stuff to a different hotel in the morning, but it seems like the more expensive route (extra taxis, extra boats, probably a pricier stay at a touristy hotel near Ple. Roma). Could do this - but prefer not to.

Does anyone have any clear direction? Please?!! I feel like I can't fully get started on planning until I can get night 1 resolved. Much thanks!

Might be cheaper to just pay the fee to change your flight, assuming you have already booked. An alternative might be to go right to a hotel by the airport for the first night, get a good night's sleep, and then start fresh in the morning.

The last Alilaguna Orange line, departs the airport at midnight and the Blue line at 00:15 (12:15 a.m ); see http://www.alilaguna.it/en/lines/line-timetables.

The last bus departing the airport to connect you with the vaporetto system is about 00:40; see http://actv.avmspa.it/sites/default/files/attachments/pdf/UM/U-5.pdf and then boat schedules at http://actv.avmspa.it/en/content/water-bus-service-timetable-0.

If staying somewhere for only one night, I'd make it at the airport, for convenience, not Ple. Roma.

I totally agree with the other responses that staying at the airport the first night is the best, most sensible option.
I stayed at the Marriott at the Venice airport and it was a decent, clean place. Wasn't too expensive. There was a free shuttle from the airport, but you might need to check the schedule for late night arrivals.
I took the Alilaguna once and while interesting, it was also very slow, noisy, rough, windy, had hard seats and lots of gas fumes. Quite an adventure, glad I tried it once.
Have a great trip!

Airport-area hotels (we used Titiani) often have free shuttle service, then you can take an inexpensive bus into Ple. Roma in the morning and then vaporetto to your Venice hotel. (Or check in to a walkable hotel near the train station -- we used Hotel Florida.)

Contact a couple of hotels that you want to spend your four nights in and ask about late-night transportation options. Most expensive scenario would be to reserve a water taxi. Make sure your hotel will be staffed 24 hours.
