Late night arrival and hotel check-in Venice May 2023

Hello!

Planning a trip to Venice, and the flights from Amsterdam that work best have us arriving around 11:20p. We've never visited Venice, and I hate to arrive this late, but it's what works best with our schedule. I'm wondering if getting from the Venice airport to a hotel in the Santa Croce area this late at night is difficult, or if it's doable. Any suggestions about arriving this late?

Thank you!

It's certainly doable. A land taxi or bus from the Airport drops you at Piazzale Roma, which is IN Santa Croce. How difficult it will be to walk to your hotel depends on how far away it is. Check out the walking path on Google maps. Check with your hotel that there will be someone at the front desk that late.

This happened to us pre-COVID, and we stayed at the Marriott Courtyard by the airport, which is five minutes away from the airport, but not walkable. However, we were coming from across the pond and were jet lagged, and you will already be in Europe. I figured, why pay the big bucks for the first night when I won't even get to the hotel until after midnight?
I do know that it's harder to get transportation, as the prices increase for the private water taxi at that hour, and the vaporetto schedule thins out. Good idea to research how late the bus runs. Making sure you can check in that late is a good point.
Good luck!

bus still runs after your arrival. https://www.atvo.it/allegati/aeroporti/linea_035_-_09.06.22_28.10.23.pdf
Do ensure your hotel has 24 hour front desk - or at least open until the wee hours for your arrival. Not all are open 24 hrs.
If you are some distance from the bus arrival point, perhaps ask the hotel about the luggage porters and whether they are at the bus stop? They used to run the service when the cruise ships were in the city, and seem to support train travelers. If they move your luggage in real time, they may be able to guide you to the hotel. Otherwise, I would be tempted to just stay overnight at an airport hotel.
