late in booking Florence hotel; recommendations?

I'm just getting started booking an October trip, and my preferred hotels in Florence are all booked. I'd like something near the Duomo, with an elevator or at least no more than 1 flight of stairs. I prefer simple, but could spend a more than planned if necessary, so my price is flexible. I've checked the RS guide. But I'd also welcome your recommendations. Location is most important for me. Thanks

Have you checked Tourist House Ghiberti? It is about a block behind the Duomo - a great location. We have stayed there twice. Price 2 years ago was 150 Euro per night. It is a small hotel with about 5 rooms on the second floor of a building. Yes, they have an elevator. Plus they have all the modern conveniences in the rooms, A/C/ internet, etc.

Check out the hotel Delle Tele on Trip Advisor, which is in the area, a short walk from the train station, and has an elevator along with a terrific, helpful staff. We were there this past May, and they were super to deal with.

Good luck. We stayed at il Bargello last month and it was fantastic-our favorite place of all to stay on our trip.

We stayed at B&B Bel Duomo. The location could not have been better. It has one flight of stairs, no lift. The couple who ran/own the place were very helpful. The "we" was my husband and me -- mid-fifties and our daughter -- late twenties, and we had no complaints. Worth checking it out on Trip Advisor or booking.com.

The Hotel Aldini is right by the Duomo, and it's quite nice and affordable.

Hote Lloggiato Dei Serviti is in the area and is a RS favorite. There is no elevator but an email to them could verify availability of a room not more than one flight above ground level. I have a reservation there in October and didn't pay attention to how many flights there are because, for me, it was not an issue. Their website said that they were booked, but I emailed them and received confirmation that there was a room available. It is worth a shot. www.loggiatodeiservitihotel.it

We stayed three nights in the Soggiorno Battistero which is directly across from the Baptistry of the Duomo. It was a perfect location. Not too far from the train stationwe were dragging our luggage on arrival-and walking distance from everything else. The owner (Kelly) is an American married to an Italian so language was never a problem. She serves breakfast in your room each morning. There is one flight of stairs to climb but we're in our 60's and it wasn't a problem for us! This is one of Rick's recommended places and I concur.

We always stay at Hotel Dali in Florence. Clean rooms, great location a few blocks behind the Duomo, and charming friendly owners.
