Late Evening Safe traveling in Italy

Hello,
May end I will be visiting to Italy with my wife & daughter. I have planned to Visit florence & same day evening 6 pm travel by train to Napels & reach 9.0 pm at Naples. is it safe? My hotel is 5-7 min. walk from Napels main train station. Pls advice about safety traveling time and any other precaution. Any specific unsafe area.

Thanks Milind

Yeah, it's fine. Naples is not unsafe. It may look a little unsavory, but it's safe . . . until you have to cross a street. Be very very careful. My hotel was quite near the train station and I walked home quite late at night. Even after 4 days there, I was still pretty hesitant to cross streets, though.

To be clear, it doesn't matter if you're at a crosswalk or at a traffic light. I'm not sure what the purpose of a Naples crosswalk is, but the traffic lights are suggestions for drivers, or possibly to alert them to cross-traffic ahead ☺

Remember that many Italians, particularly towards the south, don't even start their evening meal until 20:00, 8pm. And they don't rush, many times. 9pm is not late.

Naples isn't the hell hole described by some, but it isn't "completely safe". According to me It's the less safe big city you can visit in Italy. The back streets around Napoli centrale are poor, ugly and dirty but not dangerous.

I haven't been to Naples in years, but I would listen to the others above - it is fine. I have a feeling it may be different if you were asking about 2AM (anywhere, not just Naples). In Italy and most of southern Europe, 9PM is not late. People are starting dinner, families with small kids, older people, everyone is out and about. If there is a time when it is more dangerous it would be when fewer people are out and more of those around are up to no good.
