Late Arrival into Venice

We don't arrive at Marco Polo airport until 7 pm. Does anyone know how long it takes to claim baggage and clear customs? We plan on taking a water taxi to our hotel. Will it be an issue if it is late in the evening? Do the water taxis accept credit cards or do we need to have euros? Thanks!

MP is a relatively small airport but my guess is that you will easily clear immigrations and claim your baggage in less than hour. Since I always avoid the water taxis because they are so damn expensive, cannot tell if they take credit cards or not.

Buses will still be running. Water taxis are very expensive.

You can get through customs and baggage claim in 30 minutes. If your flight left from an EU country then you'll go through customs there not in Venice. As for Euro...when you come out of baggage claim, trun right. In the far corner past the cafe there is an ATM. You can ask the information desk about how to get to venice. Or do like me, walk outside, look for where all the other tourists are standing and ask if they are going to the island.

Hi Kay;

You might also want to look into the Alilaguna Waterbus. It travels from the airport to Venice and is cheaper than a taxi. Google this and you can get the costs, times etc. I believe it runs fairly late. You can buy the tickets at the aiport and there is a shuttle bus that goes to the pier. It is a fun way to get to Venice. If it is dark and you apporach from the water it is magical.

Just got back last week from Italy starting in Venice via Amsterdam. It does not take long to get your baggage as the airport is not that big. After you exit the baggage area you will see a desk where you can get a water taxi if you like. Just tell them how many people and they will give you a slip to take to the dock. You can use a c.c. here if you like. Have done this several other times here and know that it is more expensive that other options but oh well... The cost of the water taxi for our group of 5 was 105 Euros/$147. After you exit the airport terminal you have about a ten minutes covered walk to the dock. It would have been more if we would not have walked to the dock. I think we gave the taxi guy about 5 euros for a tip. Buon Viaggio!!

Thank you for the water taxi information. We understand that the bus system is less expensive however we are departing on a cruise after our two day visit in Venice and have extra luggage to haul around. The water taxi seems to be an ideal way to travel to our hotel which has its own water taxi landing.

Kay, the water taxi will cost about 100Euro ($140)for up to 5-6 people including luggage. The ATVO bus will cost about 3-4Euro and you can put you luggage underneath. It will be a hassle to take all of that luggage to a hotel on the vaporetto, however.
