Late arrival into Milan (LIN) - need logistics help to reach Modena

Hello,
My boyfriend and I will be arriving into Linate Airport in Milan at 9:30pm on 5/26. We are not planning to spend any time in Milan - just flying in there to visit Emilia-Romagna where we are using Bologna as a home base for a week's visit. Our issue is that by the time we land and collect our luggage, I can't seem to be able to confirm we can catch a train that late to Bologna. I hate to waste a night's hotel stay near the airport, but is that our only option?

Thanks in advance!

When I look at Trenitalia for your date, it appears the last Bologna bound train departs at 10:05. (Italotren's last departure did not work either.) Even if hand-carrying luggage, that would be unlikely. You could stay in Milan and make the best of it--no need to stay at the airport since you will be hopping on a train in the morning. Or maybe try Flixbus?

Last train to Bologna is at 10:27 pm from Milano Rogoredo, which is about 6 miles from Linate, mostly on Autostrada. so I guess if you had your luggage and be at the taxi queue by 10 pm, you could give it a shot.

Thank you both! I love the idea of being able to wake up in Bologna the next day rather than spending a night in Milan, but seems super tight (even the 10:27pm) given the prevalence of flight delays these days. I wish we could just play it be ear, but we'll need to book accommodations either way (in Milan or in Bologna).

Again, thanks so much!
