Late arrival in Venice - Transportation to Hotel

We are flying in to Venice, arriving around 10:45PM on Saturday, August 24th. We will be staying at the Pensione Guerrato. I was able to print the directions to the hotel off Rick Steves' website but I am concerned because I noticed that the bus runs from 5AM to midnight. I don't see any time limitations with the Alilaguna boats. if our flight is late or it takes a while to get through the airport, I am hoping that we are not stuck at the airport for 5 hours. Has anyone else had issues with a late arrival? Solutions?

I don't think the Alilaguna boats run much past midnight either. But you won't be stranded at the airport. You can always take a land taxi as far as P. Roma, then the night vaporetto. I think the nearest stop to your hotel is Rialto Mercato.

A water taxi is expensive but your best solution as they will take you closest to your hotel. Have you checked with them to see if anyone will be there to check you in?

hey hey weeksfamily
how many are traveling in your group? i would email the hotel, ask what they recommend, inform them you will be late, see if they will have front desk service at that hour.
motoscafivenezia.it is water taxi ($$$) will be an extra charge for time after 10pm you can do a "dummy" booking to see price. this ride will take you as close to your hotel as possible
venicelink.com has a shared shuttle water taxi ($25-35) per person and maybe a late fee at that hour. check which stops are available with shared ride. may have a wait time up to an hour.
land taxi's: taking taxi from airport to piazzale roma may cost about $40 + luggage (per piece ?) + late night fee, then either walk in dark to hotel or a boat to hotel.
read up europeforvisitors.com with lots of info. your decision what's important. we have taken the water taxi ($$$) 3 times, split 3 ways, was fast and efficient but not late at night. was worth every euro, cut back on something in trip, included in price of vacation, don't stress over it and don't let it ruin the beginning of trip. just say i'm in venice, a magical and fabulous place.

Pensione Guerrato has someone at their front desk 24/7 (I've stayed there several times). They ought to be able to tell you the best way to get to the hotel at that hour, AND to tell you the night vaporetto schedule. If you decide to take a land taxi from the airport to Piazzale Roma, and then the vaporetto, you will want line N1: night, line 1 which makes all stops down the Grand Canal from Piazzale Roma. Your stop is definitely Mercato (about the 6th stop, and on your "right" as the boat travels). After midnight, I believe it only runs about once an hour. You may be able to find the schedule on line. However you arrive, whether by vaporetto, water taxi, or Alilaguna, be sure to get CLEAR directions from Pensione Guerrato about how to navigate from the boat dock to the hotel. It's not far, but there are several turns and there won't be many people from whom to ask directions.
