Late arrival in Sicily

Hi, I got a cheap flight to Palermo (PMO) that arrives at 10:30 PM late September. The airline (Volotea) reviews mention frequent late departures. I'm having a hard time finding hotels nearby with late checkins. I'm also wondering if anyone knows if taxis are still running late at night. Thanks in advance for transportation/hotel info. Aloha, Nancy

What are you trying to communicate by telling us "The airline (Volotea) reviews mention frequent late departures."

As far as solution to the hotel problem that you put yourself in by your decision to book this flight, one option I know from experience is that the IBIS Hotels offer check in online a day or two before you arrive so when you show there is someone at the desk no matter the time that just gives you a short spiel and your key card to your room
her is a list their hotels in palermo (double check that)

Of course taxis are running; they know flights are coming in at that hour;
go to airport site and research or ask hotel about transportation after arrival

I mention the reputation for late arrivals because I am now assuming that the flight may arrive later than the expected 10:30pm and the hotels I searched do not allow check-in after 10 pm. I also looked at the airport information and it wasn't helpful/clear/thorough, and there was no mention of taxi service, only train service that stopped before I arrived. I 'put' myself into this situation because the choices were this flight taking 1.5 hours and arriving late as opposed to flights that took 15 hours. Thank you for suggestion of IBIS hotels; I will research that. Have you ever been to the PMO airport?

We flew out of Palermo last week. The airport is modern and easy to get around. I can't imagine you wouldn't find a line of taxis when you arrive. I checked the website and there are two Ryan Air arrivals at 11:30 pm. Taxi into Palermo is about 45 euros. The airport is about 20 minutes (weekday, early morning with no traffic) to 45 minutes (Saturday mid-day) from downtown Palermo.

As far as a hotel, use booking.com and filter by hotels with a 24/7 front desk/reception. I just put in a random date and there were multiple hotels listed including the one we stayed at. When you book your hotel, you might contact them directly to confirm taxi service, or they might be able to book a private transfer for you.

The Prestia e Comande airport shuttle bus is an easy way to get into the city. It runs every half hour until midnight or 00:30. I'm sure that I took one of its later departures with no problem. Sicily is an up-late region, like Spain and other parts of the Mediterranean. Taxi drivers will also basically know the flight schedules and service the airport during its normal open hours.

Thank you, Mother Duck. This was very helpful. I did not know about that filter.

Thanks, Laura. If my flight is delayed past 00.30, I'll add the experience to my 'keep calm and carry on' list!

You'll be fine. As another poster mentioned, Palermo is a very late night city. We ate dinner on our first night, finished about 10:00 and people were still lining up to get in the restaurant.

Loved it! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. We visited most of the island.

It's great, have fun, embrace it!

I was at PMO yesterday, but not that late. Having the hotel arrange for a taxi or private transfermight be the best option. Or check the website for Presti e Comande for their schedule, they probably have a run for the last plane arriving (0:30).

Thank you Zoe. My concern is that my flight will be delayed and arrive in the wee hours after public transport has shut down.

You should reach out to your hotel for a transfer depending upon your arrival time. You'll probably feel much comfortable and won't stress over a taxi.

My concern was based on the fact that my flight is scheduled to arrive late AND this airline apparently has a reputation for regularly delaying flights (something I discovered after booking). I wasn't sure I could count on a transfer for perhaps the unknown hours of the v early morning, so I was in search of public transportation and 24 hour booking. Whatever, I booked a place today. It will all come out in the wash I am sure. Thanks for your help. Aloha.

Hope you found a property you are happy with. I'm sure they will make your transfer happen.

By the way, where are you flying from?

I hope so too, but it's just for two nights. It is highly rated on booking.com, near the airport, and rather inexpensive, so yea. Flying in from Nice.
