We arrive in Rome FCO airport Saturday night 9pm September 14 from San Francisco. We have one day before we board our cruise ship on Monday so we hope, barring severe jet lag, to see Rome on Sunday.
We are unsure whether to venture to the Rome area the night we arrive. I found a bus transfer service that has pick ups at 9:55 and 11 pm. I think the first time is too early, and I'd rather not wait until 11:00. I found a private transfer service that might be feasible.
I was initially considering an Airbnb, as we enjoy the local, personal experience, but fear our very late arrival might make that difficult. We're willing to get a hotel instead.
I considered a hotel near the FCO airport, but that would complicate getting into Rome and then to the cruise port.
I welcome your suggestions and ideas about getting into Rome (or not) that night, where to stay, and how to get to the cruise port.
