My husband is attending a workshop in Slovenia mid-October we are trying to coordinate our travels.
I’ll be traveling with a few friends to Venice and Lake Como, either concurrently or if the weather is appreciatively better I won’t overlap with my spouse. We traveled to same location mid September 2011 the weather was perfect. If I am able to coordinate with my spouse it would be around October 14, If not I’m thinking around September 20th. My travel partners live in warm states and don’t enjoy a lot of rain.
October seems like it could really cool down. I live on Vashon don’t want to travel to a lot of rain.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Your weather in Lake Como for the first of October shouldn't be too bad. Expect 50 degree F lows and 62 degree F highs on average. October gets a little cloudy with only 48% possible sunshine during the month. The month's total precipitation is a little better than July, August and September, however.
And no matter what month you visit Lake Como, it's going to be an exceedingly beautiful place.
hey hey Stephanie
i'm gonna put it out there. we went to bardolino on lake garda for their annual wine festival late september early october if interested.

we rented car in venice and drove to bardolino lake garda (about 2 hours), reserved room at hotel nettuno right on the lake. parked in front, checkin and walked the promenade around hotel to the festival. bought a wine glass necklace for 20E and off we went to enjoy. so much fun, food, entertainment, people, crafts, wine. carry small denominations of euros, sat at picnic tables to enjoy people watching, eating all good food/desserts, roam the small village, talking with other attendees (mostly german/austrians), the beauty of the lake. we were there sunday, ending the festival with fireworks over the lake. drove back to venice on monday afternoon.
you can do some research if you want to see the festival which is so so worth it and have a great time.
aloha
Statistically Sept is warmer and will less chance of rain. Also Sept would have longer daylight time. However the two periods are so close to each other that it is difficult to predict.
I'd look at the actual, day-by-day weather data available on the website timeanddate.com (links below). Check the last five years or so to see whether it appears the weather might break during your second potential travel period. I saw that in action in 2015 as I was traveling in Montenegro and Croatia. I started getting rain in early October (not just sprinkles), and that continued off and on until I flew home from Zagreb on October 12. October 11 was a gullywasher and unpleasantly chilly once I got wet. Zagreb is inland; I imagine it was nicer along the coast. In your shoes I'd opt or late September.

There's little if any precipitation history shown there, so I guess I'd use the averages in the Wikipedia entries. Those show Venice is wetter and has rain on more days in October, and of course that month has a lot fewer hours of daylight than September (152 hours vs. 198 hours). In Como there's a bit less rain in October, but it affects more days. Critically (for me) the number of hours of daylight drops from 187 in September to 129 in October.
Thank you all for great resources and feedback, we’ll visit in September.
