Last week in Italy - what to do

My husband and I will be in Italy in October with friends visiting Firenze, CT, Greve & Roma. After they leave we will have a week to explore alone. I was trying to think of somewhere relaxing after the hustle and bustle. The Amalfi coast looks so beautiful but sounds hectic touristy and expensive? Suggestions?

You need to define "expensive" to get the best information, but here's my opinion. The Amalfi Coast is drop-dead gorgeous. In October it shouldn't be too hectic. There are lots of housing options, so you should be able to find something that fits your purse and your travel style. Go onto booking.com to get a sense of what's available at various prices. There are also plenty of things to do and see. A week would give you time for relaxation as well as exploration.

We are spending 5 nights in Sorrento and it's one of the cheapest places we are staying during our 3 weeks in Italy. Check out Villa Monica B & B on Trip Advisor. We are doing a day trip to see 3 towns on the Amalfi Coast while there, going to Herculanium, taking a food tour in Sorrento, etc You could also stay on a farm in Tuscany and see Siena and other Tuscan towns as day trips. We aren't going to have a car- so basing out of the B&B in Sorrento works out perfect for us (plus it's a relaxing end to our vacation). Venice is another option that would work for you. Depends where you are flying out of.

We stayed 5 nights in Sorrento at the end of our trip to Italy. It was wonderful and relaxing. We splurged and stayed at Grand Hotel Riviera. We were so exhausted we spent one day just lounging at the hotel. We had a balcony with an amazing view! The other days we hired a driver for the Amalfi coast and another we took the ferry to Capri! Take me back!

I too will suggest Sorrento. One of my favorite towns.
However if u would like a lake region, look at lake como and stay in Varenna. Very relaxing , views are gorgeous and ferry rides relaxing. One day if u have more energy u can go to pretty Lugano for the day.
Very easy by bus from lake como town of Menaggio.
Enjoy your decision.

I just found out that the whole Amalfi coast is a UNESCO World Heritage site. A good way to think of it, as opposed to 'touristy'.

Thank you everyone. I was hoping October would be a little less crowded and still nice weather. I will check on the B&B in Sorrento chinalake67 mentioned.

Keep in mind that Sorrento is not on the Amalfi Coast. I would suggest Praiano or Ravello.
