Last Supper - How early should I arrive?

I have a trip to Milan coming up and managed to snag tickets to the Last Supper (after a very early alarm and stressful hour or so wrestling with the official ticket website a couple months ago) but am having trouble finding details about logistics now that it's getting closer. I know we have to be at the ticket counter at least 30 mins prior to our appointment and present our purchase receipt and IDs. Our tickets are for 4pm. How early should we get there to make sure we're at the ticket counter by 3:30pm? Is there typically a long line to deal with? Also, will our US drivers licenses be enough or do we need to bring our passports?

Finally, I've seen mixed messages about taking pictures inside. I see that the rules say no professional photography without permission and assume that means we're allowed to take pictures with our phones (without flash) as long as it's for personal use?

They only let a small group of people in at a time so there was no long line. We arrived 30+ minutes before. And yes, we were allowed to take pictures with our phone. I don’t know about your DL, we just used our passports. It’s amazing, enjoy!

It’s great that you were able to get tickets for this very popular masterpiece!

I arrived about 40 minutes before the ticket time and showed my passport so not sure your driver’s license will be accepted.
My visit was in the morning and there were no long lines.

Keep in mind that backpacks, or water bottles, are not allowed in the museum so leave them in the hotel room. There are a few lockers in the ticket office that you may be able to use depending on availability.

I recall taking photos with my cell phone but without flash.

You will only be allowed 15 minutes in the museum, enjoy!

I just read this news on the official website,
cenacolovinciano.org,
so you may want to give yourself extra time to pick up your ticket(s) just in case.

The experimentation to gradually increase the number of visitors allowed inside the Museo del Cenacolo Vinciano continues: starting on Friday, March 1, in conjunction with the start of Museo City, the event dedicated to enhancing the cultural heritage of the city of Milan, the number of visitors will be increased to 40 for all time slots, with an additional 105 daily tickets available (for a total of 215 additional tickets each day since the beginning of the experimentation).

Safe travels!

I agree with the 30+ a little before. I was walking, wasn’t sure how long it would take so got there about 45 minutes ahead. After you get your ticket do step into the church that is right there.

And yes to being able to take non-flash pictures. I just looked back through mine. What a treat to see. The paint is flaking badly so it’s quite dim.

I’m glad you persevered thru the ticket buying process!

Thanks all! Super helpful responses. We have a little more than 2 hours from when our train arrives to check into our Airbnb and get over there. Very doable in theory, but I was having nightmares of missing our allotted time while waiting in line for the ticket counter. Seems like 30-40 minutes ahead of time should be plenty. Although knowing my wife we'll probably be there by 3pm if we can. Can't wait!

it's a somewhat unique entry process. You had a scheduled time. All the ticketholders at that time enter an enclosed area and then that area is secured. The people toward the front of the group move forward into another area and that door is closed behind the group. It's not like getting a timed entry and you are on your way. You have so many minutes to see the Last Supper and then the room is emptied of your group and the process begins again. So you are not going to be able to get in early as you might in other timed entry sites. A very simplified explanation.
