Last Supper, Free Sunday Tickets

Turns out that the day I wish to visit the Last Supper in Milan is also the first Sunday of that month. I understand that tickets are still required and that these become available at noon of the preceding Wednesday. My question: has anyone here acquired free tickets this way? I am imagining the experience being similar to trying to get a backcoutry pass in Yosemite: you and everyone in your family call at the exact second tickets become available, and no one gets through and they sell out the first minute.

So first I am confirming that I am right to have my finger hovering over the button at 11:59 local time, and second, Im wondering what my chances are (if you have experience). Thank you!

I got them but it was prepandemic. We never got to use them. I got up in the middle of the night to call but never got through. After 30 minutes I gave up and went back to bed. I got up at about 7 eastern time and tried again and got through on third try.

Thanks Beth. I'll be there, so I wont have to time it as drastically. Ive done the midnight wake up for tickets in the past and its no fun. I guess I'll find out anyway. Thanks again.

Make sure you are logged on prior to the 12:00 local time. I've not gotten the free tickets, but for the regular ones, they will put you in a waiting queue that can last a while. I logged in 30 minutes early and prior to the 12:00 I was put in a queue so was able to purchase tickets a bit after 12:00 versus others who had to wait much longer. There are only so many people who can buy at a time and the further back you are in the queue, the later that time will be. I don't know how much earlier you can log in, but I know you will need to be ready prior to the official time.
