Last Supper Exhibit on Sunday

I see from the Italy 2019 guidebook that Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper is free on the first Sunday of each month but you should show up at 8:00 am to get a reserved time for the day. How long are the lines at 8:00 am? How early do we need to arrive to get a reservation for the day? We will be there the first Sunday in October and there are 6 of us.

Just a headโ€™s up......there is a group of local people that staff the Last Supper.....we were ushered in and they give you an amount of time to see it and then they rush you out....my husband and I were trying to get some good pictures at the end of our time viewing because the crowds in front of us were blocking a better view......a staff lady was insistent on shooing us out as we were trying to get a picture.....take advantage of your time there!

...we were ushered in and they give you an amount of time to see it
and then they rush you out.

That's right. As the website states:

I turni di visita durano 15 minuti per un numero massimo consentito di
30 persone per volta.

The visits last 15 minutes for a maximum number of 30 people at a
time.

The limited amount of time and number of visitors allowed is due to the fragility of the fresco. And no surprise that the staff is "local people"? ๐Ÿ˜‰

It's practically impossible to find tickets directly at the ticket office the free Sunday, as Italians take advantage and book for this day, so there are no tickets left.
If you have another day available, aim to book online when October sales starts, or even show up that day at 8:00 to see if there were any cancellations, but not on the free Sunday.
