Can anyone relate how possible it is to get Last Supper tickets the day of for the month of Sept?
Well, it’s hard to say how things go from year to year but the day I visited in late Sept 2022 there was a sign outside saying all tickets for that day were sold.
My DIL was in Milan at the beginning of June and Last Supper tickets were sold out 1+ months in advance.
It's not something to count on, but someone reported here that they went to the church where the painting is located early in the morning and found some tickets were available for that day. I have no idea whether that was a fluke.
Thanks acraven, that's helpful, I am trying to gauge the possibility through first hand accounts like yours
Have you asked your hotel to get tickets for you?
@ChristineH
Hi Christine, I'm not staying at a hotel.
Asking specifically of people's experience of getting tickets at the box off first thing in the morning as is listed as possible via the website's description.
I realize there are resellers, 3rd party tours ect... :-)
We had tickets for the Last Supper (purchased several months before) for Aug 31 last year. Quite a few people showed up that day to get day-of tickets, but none were available. Milano was very crowded while we were there late Aug/early
September—I’d guess your chances of same day tickets are slim to impossible….
You probably already know this, but the official website says it adds tickets every week, so it could be worth it to keep checking and hopefully get a reserved ticket in advance:
"Experimentation for a gradual increase in the number of visitors allowed inside the Cenacolo Vinciano Museum continues during the summer months. If you have not found tickets for the date you are interested in or if you do not have a way to book well in advance, please check the availability of additional tickets that will be released weekly, every Wednesday at 12 noon for the following week, only on the online sales platform and only for single visitors (a maximum of 5 tickets will be possible to purchase)."
the same page also says that reservations are always required for all types of admission.
I have 2 tickets I can’t use Sep 20 1:30 pm.
You can’t cancel or change them except apparently I can change names as long as done 24 hours ahead. I booked them on the official site back in June. If anyone can use tickets for Sep 20, contact me.
Steve
I think the situation is more or less the same as it is for any tourist attraction.
If there are returns, or tickets they have held back for possible VIP's or something
don't get taken, then they get sold. What I am not sure of is where the tickets
that may go on sale the week before come from.
It's a matter of chance, based on events you don't have first hand knowledge of.
Made a bit more difficult by the small size of each tour group.
So if you're willing to trek over to the box office and hope that the moment you
arrive there is a ticket available, and won't be too upset if there aren't any, well,
no worries. But if I knew even the day before I might want to go, I'd check the
website first. You never know.
I've read that the tickets are turned back in by tour agencies who can't use the tickets as they buy blocks in advance in order to have availability for clients. I have no idea if this is true of a myth.
