last night in venice, hotel or not?

We are leaving on the first flight from Venice to come home. This flight leaves at 6 am. It really seems like a waste of money to get a room that last night, as we would need to leave for the airport no later than 4 am anyway. We thought we might just stay up that night and get to the airport early, but having never been to Venice we aren't sure about what to do with our bags, what is still open, safety, etc. Any thoughts?

Can you even get out of Venice at 4AM?
Id think the boats dont run 24/7.
It must slow down at night.
Id stay at the airport or close.

If your flight leaves at 6 I would assume you have to be at the airport 3 hours in advance, so to be at airport at 3 am,, I would leave Venice by 2:30,, I am not sure if my timing is right of course, but in my eyes I agree with you , stay at airport, or airport hotel at least.

If you choose to stay on the main Venice islands, you will have no choice but to have the hotel have an expensive water taxi waiting for you. Water taxis run 100Euro and up ($160). If you are not staying at a hotel, I don't know how you would make arrangements for the taxi. You will be stuck.

The much less expensive Alilaguna water bus and land buses from the Piazzale Roma do not run 24/7 and the first ones out in the morning will not get you there on time.

As an alternative, there are nice and reasonable hotels at the airport. This includes the Marriott Courtyard and the Titian Inn Hotel and Residence. Both have shuttles but it's very early and they may have to call them in early. At worst, the Marriott is .8km from the airport and you can walk it.

Finally, if a hotel room seems to be not worth it for the sleep you will get, you're only other alternative is to party out at the airport. I don't know if this is allowed. Such is the downside of booking early flights out of Venice (and Rome as well).
