Last night in Rome - Where to stay

We will be spending our last night in Rome so we can make 10:00 a.m. flights. We would like to stay in the Travestere area or Campo de fiori to be near my daughter's school where we will be picking up luggage. Any suggestions on a hotel with a quad room for a family of four would be appreciated. We probably will not be able to partake in breakfast.

In Trastevere you could try the Trilussa Palace, it's quite nice. Or near Campo is the Hotel Teatro Pace, also a great one.

Laura,

Given the relatively early hour of your flight, I'd suggest staying in the Termini area. That way you'll have easy access to the Leonardo Express (you'll probably have to depart Rome about 07:00 or so).

Is it possible to pick up the luggage the previous night?

Cheers!

I wish our flights were a little later. We cannot pick up the luggage until the day before our flight. I thought I've read a few times that unless you stay at the Hilton airport it's best to just stay right in Rome as the airport is only 1/2 hour by cab. We would need two rooms at the Hilton which would make it a very expensive night.

Laura,
When I saw that Hilton at the airport for my 10am flight, I would have paid double to triple for the convenience of staying there!
Having returned from Venice very late into Rome FCO the night before my flight, I had to turn right around to take the train back in...and it was raining...

So, if I had a "do-over" I would stay at the Hilton for the convenience of not having to wake up at 4-5am to get to the airport...

Good luck!

Hmmm, I'll have to think about the Hilton. We are arriving by train from Florence the afternoon before our flight and will pick up luggage stored in Travestere. That's why I'm thinking it may just be easier to stay in the area for the night and take a cab or train to the airport.

Laura,
We had the early-departure issue and stayed
at Nicholas Inn and were well taken care of. Melissa,
the owner, arranged for a very early car for us, and
we enjoyed our last night in Rome. Nicholas Inn is
close to the Colosseum. Good wishes!

Thanks... I will check that out. It would be $1,000 USD to stay at the Hilton for our family of four for one night. We do have some Hilton points but I just can't justify it. I could buy a lot of gelato for that!

Hotel Smeraldo has quads-near Campo dei
Fiori. Hotel Romae is walking distance to Termini-arrive from Florence, check in at Romae .You can go get the luggage, cab back to the hotel, and walk to the train in the morning.

We stay at the Hilton our last night in Rome when we have an early flight out.

We usually make use of their free shuttle into the city center for our "last" dinner, then shuttle back for a good night sleep.

I do not think that 10:00 is too early. The Metro starts running between 5:00 and 6:00 depending on stop. Staying in the Trastevere or Campo di Fiori, you can catch Tram 8 from Largo Aregentina or anywhere along Via Trastevere to Trastevere Station, to catch the train to the airport. Leaving your hotel at 6:30 or 7:00 should be fine. If you are a group of four, arranging a van or taxi might be as economical, and easier. In the end, I would rather spend my last night in Rome, and the money saved over the Hilton will pay for both the transportation and a heck of a meal for all.
