last night in Rome before 9am Sunday flight...where to stay?

Okay, I am looking for some place nice, not too expensive, easily accessible to the airport but I want to feel like I am still in Rome not in a holiday inn in the states. I am assuming that any hotel can arrange a cab for us in the early morning to get us to the airport. So any ideas for a romantic, Italian setting, but not too expensive?

As I posted many times we always stay in the Termini area so that it is a quick walk to the train. It may not be that romantic but it is reasonable and in Rome for one last meal.

...and don't make the mistake I did several years ago. I was flying out of Rome to return home, but had a plane-change in Amsterdam. I headed for "international flights" and wasted 10 min or more before I realized that a flight Rome-Amsterdam is not international. It is (was) a "domestic" flight. Of course, same EU zone.

We needed a place for one night in Rome prior to our early morning departure flight. We arranged for a room at Hotel Miami on Via Nationale. It was a short cab ride from Rome Termini but a long hotel-arranged early morning cab ride to the airport. It was reasonably priced and gave us the opportunity to do some walking and exploring to sites we were already familiar with such as Trevi Fountain and The Spanish Steps and a great dining experience as well.

This post is not meant to deter you from spending your last night in a great spot in Rome. Just a reminder that where ever you end up staying, do arrange to be at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight time. I was adamant about being on the road at least 3 hours before our last flight out of Rome over the objections of my spouse, who HATES early morning flights, and the host of our BnB. It only took us about 30 minutes to reach the airport from our location close to the Coloseum, but am I glad we had the extra time. HUGE check in line for US Airways and the airport was having problems with power outages that slowed down the whole check in process. We got to our gate 15 minutes before they started the boarding process.

We stayed at the Golden Tulip Ambra Palace, Via Principe Amedeo 257,in Rome. We got a great discounted rate booking on line and were very pleased with the hotel. It's an easy walk to Termini where you can catch the Leonardo Express to the airport. The area around the train station isn't the greatest, but we felt safe and the convenient access to trains, buses and the metro was really an advantage.

thanks for the help. checked out the golden tulip but it was more than I want to spend. I think we will just splurge on a great dinner and stay at a cheap place. should I have confidence that most places will be able to arrange a taxi for us early in the am to get to the airport?

Also, thanks for the tips re the airport. Funny about standing in the international line, glad you mentioned it because I probably would have done the same.

Jamie,

You could always be "adventurous" and stay at a Hostel on your last night. There are several of them in the area around Termini, and some have private rooms.

Have a look at The Beehive or Alessandro Palace. Fawlty Towers is also in that area, but I don't have much information on it. A Hostel would certainly fit your criteria of "not too expensive".

Happy travels!

Looked at the Beehive Ken, but am too much of a spoiled american to share the bath. I think!...unless I don't find anything else. Thanks for the tip in any case.

Jamie, don't know how much you want to spend. We stayed at Bed and Breakfast Flavius for 125 euros in October last year. Elevator, private bath, and breakfast is served on an outdoor terrace weather permitting. They will even arrange for a driver to take you to the airport. Just make sure he drops you at the international terminal and not the domestic terminal (and even if he messes it up, it is still very easy to get to the international terminal). Very close to the Colosseum with lots of trattorias in the neighborhood. Safe to walk about at night.

We are traveling to Italy in a couple of weeks and I faced this same situation. After a review of the options I choose the Euro House Inn(www.hoteleurohouseinn.com). Its 100 E for a night with private bath. They advertise a shuttle to the airport for 25 E (for as many people who they can fit into the "limo".
It's very near to FCO so the ride will be a short one.
While I haven't stayed there yet I was impressed by the friendly, quick and courteous email responses.

Thanks Judy and Doug,
checked out both of those...Flavius was already booked for that night. The Euro House looks really nice and the price is great but we want to spend our last night in the heart of Rome. I know we are going to have to tear ourselves away. Thanks for the referrals though.
