Last Night in Milan - Leaving from Malpensa Terminal 1

On our last day we need to; return our car in Milan, find a hotel or Air BnB, get our Covid test, see some of Milan, and have an easy way to get to the airport the next day.
Any suggestions on the logistics would be appreciated;

Method to get from airport to milan central
Suggestions on staying near airport or milan central?
Where to get a rapid covid test the last day

Thanks

Get the COVID test two days before not the night before. I flew out of Milan my last trip August 2022. I got my test two days before in Florence. You have a lot of options. All of the airports have testing and there is testing by most major train stations. Maybe return the car at the airport and stay at the Sheraton at the airport. You can then walk to the terminal for your flight. You can take the Malpensa Express airport train to get to Milan and back

Earlier discussions about spending the last night in Milan have led me to make a note that it is better to choose a hotel near Milano Nord Cadorna station rather than Milano Centrale. Trains from Cadorna are about 15 minutes faster than from Centrale, and the neighborhood is reported to be nicer. What time is your flight? There's lots of transportation out to the airport, but if the flight is early, staying at the airport might be more comfortable.

From which direction will you be approaching Milan by car? Malpensa is over 30 miles from the city. I definitely wouldn't want to drive past Milan all the way to Malpensa to drop the car, then make a roundtrip into the city for sightseeing. If approaching from the south, I'd want to drop the car at a convenient Milan location.

Current US regulations require testing no more than 1 day prior to your flight. Do not follow the two day advice listed above.

You don't mention what time your flight is on the day you leave. That might influence people's suggestions.

Currently, covid tests must be ONE day before flying back to the US.
When we were there April 2019, we had a problem when the airport express trains were being canceled without warning. The train journey is about 50 minutes. For reduced stress, I'd stay at the airport.
Safe travels!

What time is the flight and where does it go?

A 7AM flight that goes to UK or USA is a very different situation than a 10AM flight that goes to France Germany or Amsterdam to get the US bound flight.
