Last night at Milan Malpensa airport hotel? Questions....

Hello-
We will be visiting in May, and have all our reservations made except our last night. We'll be coming from Limone on Lake Garda on Sunday, and our flight on Monday leaves Milan Malpensa at 10:30am.

We do have a rental car to return. Does anyone know how late the rental car companies at the airport are open on Sunday? I'd like to stay at Lake Garda as long as possible. Also, do the hotels provide a shuttle back from the airport, if we drop our car off Sunday night? About how long should we leave for that drive?

Any hotel recommendations at the airport? We were looking at the Holiday Inn Express, but they did mention a "surcharge" for the shuttle - just didn't say how much it was.

If we do end up having to keep the car Sunday night and drop it off Monday morning, do the hotels charge you to park there?

Thanks!!!
Theresa

I do not remember which hotel I stayed at there... it has been years, but generally, there aren't as many hotels in Europe that have the free shuttles to airport that we are used to in the US. I have often had to pay. If Holiday Inn doesn't have a free shuttle I am not sure who would. Usually the fee isn't outrageous.

Theresa, 18 months ago I spent my pre-flight night at First Hotel Malpensa, close to the airport with a shuttle back and forth. It was comfortable, friendly, affordable, just right for what I needed. At least then the shuttle was free for hotel guests. The hotel web site says it runs from 4:30 am to 1:00 am. Your flight is two hours later than mine was, so you would be able to take advantage of the hotel's breakfast, which I could not.

My guess is that, even at the airport, Sunday hours will be 9 to noon at best. I suggest the strategy of staying about a half hour (or less, as long as the hotel has free parking) from the airport and dropping the car off at 8 a.m. on flight day.

Last October my husband and I had a 10 a.m. flight to JFK and like Larry we stayed at the First Hotel. Had free shuttle, free wifi and is just a few minutes from the airport. We had thought about staying in Milan for our final night but glad that we decided against it. Upon arrival in Milan from Florence, we checked our bags at Centrale, spent the day sightseeing and then took the Malpensa Express to the airport later that night and the free hotel shuttle picked us up & also took us to airport next morning. Worked for us as we never spend much time in Milan. For our 10 a.m. flight, which started boarding around 9, we arrived at the airport at 7 a.m. and glad we did as we needed every minute. Sorry, can't help you with car drop off info. Enjoy Lake Garda! We loved it!

We would recommend the Holiday Inn Express! There is a small surcharge for a trip outside their regular service hours, I can't remember exactly how much but it was reasonable. The H.I. website gives you the exact schedule, I say exact because our experience was that you can set your watch by these guys both at the airport and at the hotel ends. Trust them! H.I. does not charge for parking. For other Rental questions check you Rental Company. Again from our experiences don't worry, things will go smoother than think. Good luck, Bill.
