Last Minute Accommodations In Tuscany (URGENT)

We are leaving for Rome in 10 days, and on to Florence on 9/23. I just received an email from the owner of an apartment we had rented for three nights there saying that they have a water leak in the Master BR and he could not guarantee that it the repairs would be completed when we arrived. He suggested we cancel and look elsewhere, and is refunding my deposit electronically as we speak. While disappointed, I was happy that he gave us at least a little advance notice. We are now left to find five days in or around Florence when we've been unable to find two extra to go along with the apartment that is now cancelled. As you may have seen from recent comments I've made to other postings, our traveling party is my wife, her mother and me, and it's our first trip to Italy. Can any of you "travel experts" out there please help us? Many thanks.

Jim, I'm surprised the owner of your rental apartment didn't offer to see if he could find you other digs, or at leadt recommend a few places he knows, since locals often have resources that tourists don't have. Have you tried asking? After all, it's not your fault that this happened and I would hope the landlord feels some sense of responsibility.

This happens from time to time. An apartment needs repairs when really it is overbooked. Use Venere.com for to find a place to stay. There are reviews listed and you can book with instant confirmation.

Hi Jim: have you tried the websites for hotels in Italy. Other than Travelocity and Orbitz, there are several that I have linked on to that have excellent info on hotels and tours in Tuscany. One in particular is Italianwelcome.com. They have lots of info on Tuscany. If you email jepasqui@tin.it she may be able to help you as well. She works for Italianwelcome.com. Good Luck and let me know how it works out for you.

Thank you Sherry for your advice. I emailed the site you recommended and Jeanne responded that she may have an apartment near the cathedral for the time we need. She is to email me back tomorrow with the info if it is available.

Check out www.venere.com

It is an awesome site for finding hotels/b&b's & apartments in europe far better than any US travel sites. You'll be able to see places with rooms available for your dates right away and see pictures and reviews. Most confirm instantly, but some within 24 hours. You can even search on a map to get in a good spot.

Another excellent site is Tripadvisor;you can plug in the dates required and you'll get an immediate response on what's available. There are lots of comments from travelers like you & me rating each place which I've found to be reliable.
