What’s the best route to take for one day trip tmw ?
Train from S.M. Novella to Centrale (further away from Piazza dei Miracoli but no changes) or San Rossore (closer to Piazza dei Miracoli but some trains require a change at Centrale ): use the Trenitalia website for schedules. It's not a bad walk from Centrale, or take a bus or cab to the piazza.
Just go to the station and buy tickets to Pisa. If you have no luggage and are just going to the Tower, ask to route to Pisa S. Rossore which is walking distance. Also get return tickets routed with a stopover in Lucca. So you should have 3 sets of tickets, Florence to Pisa S. Rossore, Pisa S. Rossore to Lucca, Lucca to Florence. These tickets will be good for anytime that day, but you must remember to validate them by sticking them in the platform stamping machine before you get on the train for each leg of the journey.
Thank you for the detail info.
Is Trenitalia the only website to check train schedule, for example,
FIRENZE S. M. NOVELLA → PISA CENTRALE
as the 7 am train, takes 49 mins, rest takes little over 1 hr.
Checking website online, shows tickets are unavailable in the morning tmrw, can someone double check ?
Thanks

It is a Regionale train, it is impossible to sold out.
Helen, as samuelito said there is no way tickets are sold out for the regionales to Pisa tomorrow morning as there are no reserved seats on those trains. Yes, you will be taking Trenitalia trains so you should be using the Trenitalia website for schedules/prices. There's NO reason to buy tickets in advance: just do it at SM Novella in the morning before your trip. Yes, different trains at different times may take a little longer or shorter to get there. Validate your tickets before getting on the train.
The 7 am train is a Regionale Veloce, a regional express train. It only makes one stop along the way at Empoli, thus it does the trip to Pisa in 49 minutes.
Anywhere nearby we can go after Pisa
Lucca
I think when I looked up train schedule last night, it was showing “ unavailable”. Thanks for clarifying.
On our way to Pisa now. Chianti is famous for wine, just wonder if possible to visit Chianti as well, after Lucca.
If not likely, no worry. Perhaps next time.
Thanks
Not really very practical at this point to visit Chianti after Lucca and get back to Florence in the same day. Enjoy Pisa and Lucca today. Lucca is worth the remainder of the day.
