Last Details for AMS to Bolzano

We are planning to fly from AMS to either Milan or Bologna and then take a train to get to Bolzano. Just curious if anyone can answer these last few questions for me:

Is Easyjet pretty reliable? Or should I pay a bit more and fly on ITA?

How much time ahead would we need to be at the Milano Centrale train station to check in etc? If our flight arrives at LIN airport at 1:30pm, could we make a 2:45pm train from the Milano Centrale station? An Easyjet flight would get in earlier but I think we flew them once and got delayed on the tarmac, missing a shuttle that was to start our tour a few years ago.

Same question for the Bologna train station. The flight would arrive at 12:20 and the train leaves at 13:15.
I assume I would book the train called ItaliaRail? Are there other trains to consider?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

No need to "check in". I'd want to be in the station at least 15 min before departure time.
I wouldn't buy any train ticket in advance- you never know if flight will be delayed, traffic in town, etc.

The BLQ airport is not near the station- you need to allow more time- I'd allow at least 90 min- but again - would not buy tix ahead of time.

Do not use "ItaliaRail" that is a reseller

Use the official train company
Trenitalia- state run- fast trains and regional
https://www.trenitalia.com/content/tcom/en.html

or
ItaloTreno- private-fast trains only, not sure if they go to Bolzano
https://www.italotreno.com/en

Both have easy to use apps

I thought you were supposed to book trains ahead of time - what if they fill up?

If we got to the train station earlier than the train we book, will they let us go on an earlier train, ie exchange the ticket?

Doubtful trains will sell out

You can purchase in advance but be sure you buy a ticket that allows changes
Read all the fine print and info on Trenitalia

Do read the info in link posted above
Man in Seat 61 is expert in all things train

Due to uncertainty you might comsider spending one night in whichever city you fly to then traveling onward to Bolzano in the am

Yes, that looks like a great web site and thank you so much. I will read through it before booking. I just realized that after our time in the Dolomites (which is a tour that starts in Bolzano) we also need to book a train from Bolzano to Munich. I assume I can do that through the same websites even though it will be from Italy to Germany?

This has been so very helpful! THANK YOU.
