Last day in Rome ideas

What would you do on your last day in Rome with kids? Boys are 8&9.

We arrive Sunday April 21. Just going to wander around the Campo de Fiori area. See the light show at Forum of Caesar in the evening.

Monday we have a tour of the Colosseum and Forum

Tuesday is a tour of the Vatican and then Castel San Angelo.

Wednesday is a day trip to Pompeii.

So what for Thursday? We considered Ostia Antica, but thought it may be overkill with Pompeii the day before. Thinking about Borghese. Or the Appian Way. Other ideas?

The boys might enjoy Trastevere especially the piazza in front of Santa Maria in Trastevere. There are usually street performers that keep the youngsters happy while you can sit at one of the cafes and just be thankful that you have those boys to spoil, to love, to share this trip with.

Good to have a pocketful of ideas but wait and see what the energy level is after your three big days. Time in the park (Villa Borghese) on bikes or one of the peddle carts might be fun. Also, arrival day you may be too bushed for the light show, which is quite late. Maybe save that for the last night.

Rome is chock full of sites. You can do a food walking tour of Trastevere with Eat Italy. My daughter liked this.
Or, just go exploring around Pantheon area and get gelato at San Crispino. There is a place next to Pantheon called something like MonteFiore (I can look it up later.) for gelato.
Give the kids a cheap camera and let them take pictures. Look at a statue and come up with something funny that the statue "says." There are so many churches to explore. You will have fun. Let each child have a daypack with snacks, etc.. Make explorers out of them.

I had wanted to do one if the food tours, but the shorter 2.5 hour one isn't being offered Thursday. I think the four hour tour is too long for them.

I think I'll have a pocket full of ideas and let them choose the final day based on how tired they are and what they enjoyed and didn't enjoy during the trip.

Our kids really enjoyed the Explora IL Museo Dei Bambini Di Roma https://www.mdbr.it/en/ which is right next to Villa Borghese and a gentle, fun filled day can be had there. Late April should be great weather to explore the park and should give the kids a bit of relief from all the history and ancient sites.

JC...that looks like a great option! My kids love children's museums. And I like that it's limited to a two hour visit....mine would spend all day. Then we can play at the park. I think there is a zoo there too?? Have to look.

Quite a few dads enjoy it too. At one point I'm sure it was just me and a handful of other dads who had gradually pushed all the kids out of the way so that we could concentrate on building dams on the the water trough!

I think the time limit is testament to how popular it is.
