LAST chance visit to Rome in HOT August, 48 hours

Difficult question here, please bear with me. This will be our 4th trip to Italy, also our 4th to Rome, yet I feel I must still ask. We adore Rome so we will end our trip in Rome, arriving early morning August 9, leaving the 11th. This will be our last trip in several years (expecting a baby and other financial goals) and we want to make it memorable, yet last year in July it was so UNBEARABLY hot. What would you do in 48 hours to escape the heat and crowds, while enjoying one last amazing stay in Rome? We've done the major museums (Vatican, Borghese, National Museum, Doria Pamphilij, Palazzo Barberini, Palazzo Altemps, Capotoline, Vittoriano) and many major churches and landmarks. Love ancient history and immersing ourselves in Rome's past. Hopeless romantics, art lovers. Your suggestions are immensely appreciated for this, our one "last hurrah" in who knows how long. How would you spend your time? Thanks!

How about the Basilica of San Clemente? It's mostly underground and should be cooler. It's also very cool in the other sense. Great website here.

Pray that it is cooler at night and consider a night tour of Rome. http://www.darkrome.com/legends_and_mysteries_of_rome.aspx Try a late lunch/dinner picnic in Gianicolo Park as sunset.
Near the famous Bocca della Verita is a little road. Walk up Clivi die Publici. Name changes to Via di Santa Sabina. Keep following it thru the residential area. You'll have glimpses of Saint Peter's dome now and then, including that from Giardin deli Aranci (the orange garden). If you keep walking towards the end of this road you might see people peering into a key hole located in a large gate. Do the same. Also, check and see if there is music happening at Villa Celimontana

Maybe a tour of one of the catacombs... The temperature underground will be significantly cooler than outside and they are a great site to see.
