after venice i have 4 nights ( depart from florence) myself and my 12 yr old daughter and cant decide if we should keep the florence hotel and take day trips ( including one to viareggio) OR stop in rimini for 2 days .my cousin says rimini are not nice beaches - whats it like there? is it safe? fun? soft sand?

Day trips from Florence are easy. Lucca, Cinque Terre, Tuscany, etc. Don't forget Bologna!

Ravenna has amazing Byzantine mosaics if that interests you, and I found it to be an easy stop-off between time in Venice and Florence. But Florence is wonderful. If you haven't been there earlier on the trip, I suggest at least a couple of days there (or all 4 days, depending on your interests). I've not heard good things about Rimini, but haven't had direct experience.
