We are in Cinque Terre right now. We will be flying out on Tuesday morning and have a place to stay near fiumicino airport Monday night.
We don't know if to make our way back towards Rome starting tomorrow along the west coast and if so where would you recommend in staying along the way? Or if to stay here in CT one more night. We have had a wonderful time all through Tuscany and beyond. I just didn't research anything along the west coast coming back down to Rome. Thank you.

You could also spend a couple of nights in Orvieto which is a beautiful Umbrian hill town, and only about an hour or so from Rome.

We liked the town of Massa Marittima very much. The lower town is medieval and the upper "new" town is renaissance. Also, near Capalbio, almost on the border of Lazio, there is an astonishing sculpture park, the Tarot Garden, by Niki de Saint-Phalle. (If you've been to the Pompidou Center in Paris, you'll have seen the fountain she did there.). It's open afternoons only. My guidebook says Capalbio is lovely, but we didn't have enough time for it.
Wending your way on towards Rome, Saturnia, Sovana, and Pitigliano are all charming towns, very worth visiting. You can easily see all three in the same day, or just Sovana and Pitigliano. By the way, just for your information, we made the drive from FCO to Pitigliano in about three hours.
