Following the Village Italy tour in September, we will be spending a day in Milan. There is a Rossini opera performed by students of the Ls Scale Academy scheduled that night. Does anyone know what the dress code is? We tend to travel light. Would a sport coat and tie over slacks for me an a simple dress for my wife, both of us with walking shoes, pass muster?
Yes. La Scala only gets picky if it is production premier. Just dress as nice as you can.
From the La Scala website:
Dress code at La Scala
The public is kindly requested to dress in keeping with the decorum of the Theatre, out of respect for the Theatre and for other viewers. People wearing shorts or sleeveless T-shirts will not be allowed inside the auditorium; in this case, tickets will not be reimbursed.
