Lasagna in Assisi

I remember reading about the Franciscan nuns serving a lasagna lunch in Assisi at or near the monastery.

I've searched almost all terms I can think of and haven't found it. It supposedly was some of the best in all of Italy.

Would love to stop for lunch on our way from Rome to San Marino. Have any of you heard of it or have any information?

Sorry, after 16 years visiting Assisi I have never heard about this. I don't remember eating lasagna in Assisi either. I checked a few of my favorite restaurants - it's not on their menus. Try the rabbit - it's amazing Or the wild boar. How about truffles?

And if it did exist, I would think Covid ended it.

There are some lasagna-variations called "Lasagne del Convento", that could be roughly translated as: "Made the way nuns used to".

I am sure nuns living in convents close to Bologna had their own receipt for lasagna and maybe in the past they cooked it for their visiting families and the best receipts have spread around Italy etc. etc.

A convent near Assisi may have changed an old tradition into a way to feed tourists, just like in Rome the Church changed resting spaces for pilgrims into hotels.
Unfortunately I can't find the Convent you a looking for, Covid19 may have actually ended it.

Totally different experience but this is a resource for meals prepared by nuns. We ate at L’eau Vive in Rome many years ago with our student group. The cuisine was international as were the group of international singing nuns.

We’ll also be in Rome, so this is appreciated! We’ll check it out.
