Larger Sized Clothing - Florence

Hey all!
I'm spending the semester in Florence and I JUST got a hole in one of my precious pairs of jeans. I went to a few stores to find replacement pants today, but it's really hard to find my size. In the U.S., I wear size 14 in jeans (I'm not totally sure what the measurement numbers are or the conversion, but I read that 14 should be 34-35), but all I can find here is up to 32, which really does not fit. After just a few shopping trips before I had noticed that it's tough to find things in the correct size, but now that I need something in my size and have looked around a lot more, I'm finding it impossible to find my size. Any help at all would be great! I've still got 2.5 months here so I'm going to have to get a replacement at some point haha.

Thanks!
Zoë

can you get out to the Auchan megastore north of the northern suburbs? They are generalists and often some sizes may be in a wider range, if you don't mind off-brands and some sports brands.

Good luck.

Have you asked in shops with the smaller sizes where their aunts' friends might go for a slightly larger size?

I'm seeing mention of Coin dept. store as a source for larger sizes. I've no personal experience with it but you might give it look if you haven't already?

Editing to add, I just ran into a similar question on TripAdvisor dated just 2 days ago so it might be helpful!

Santini carries jeans in larger sizes for men, so they might also carry them for women. Store is located on the street on left hand side of SMN train station (side with tram). Address is Via L. Alamanni 35r, or you could call and ask (055293132). They're closed most Sundays and don't open until 14:30 on Mondays. Otherwise, hours are 9:30-19:30. Santini carries good quality merchandise at discounted prices, so prices will generally be lower than equivalent items at Coin.

Hey Zoe, holes can be a fashion statement! Some people pay more for holes. If yours could be seen as this perhaps you can still keep wearing them. If your hole is a seam rip maybe you can stitch it shut or take them to a tailor to repair. If your hole is in a really awkward place then follow the above suggestions for finding a new pair.

Thanks for all the tips! I've been to COIN to find some homeware but I didn't look at the clothes -- since it's a larger department store, I could see them carrying the right size. I'll definitely look into that option as well as the others mentioned. Also, I love the idea of rocking the hole as a fashion statement, except that it's in a very unfortunate location that I most definitely couldn't play off. I'm looking at trying to patch it up since it's not too visible most of the time, but, yes, it looks like I'll be needing new jeans haha.

Ah. Well. I can see why that's a problem.
Maybe a long tunic? :O)

Can you wear Lands End? LandsEnd.CO.UK carries jeans and they can be shipped to Italy. Also Amazon.IT is a possibility.

OVS stores also carry a wider variety of sizes and styles in pants. In fact at OVS, try on different sizes in a style you like because the various cuts they carry can often afford you a different size. The Internet shows several OVS locations in Florence.

And include the outdoor markets and street vendors in your search; they often have gorgeous fashion pants for as little as 5 Euro!

Yes, I know that jeans are popular in Italy, but have you seen the Fashion here? I've been crazy wild shopping nonstop for the past two months and I'm still in Orbit! I'm amazed at the beautiful pants in the stores, on the streets, in the alleys, I check them all out! And often at discounted prices even in the stores!

I have several 5 Euro pants I bought on the street that are the envy of my neighbors here on Via Urbana in Monti. Many street vendors have one-day only spots, so it's being in the right place at the right time! Just get out there Girl and go shoooppppppping, you're in Italy!!!!

It looks like you have gotten some good leads and I suspect you will be able to find places that carry your size. Some other options:

Can the hole be repaired? Perhaps you can take the jeans into a seamstress.

Many US stores ship internationally (Nordstroms for example). Or have someone from home ship some to you. This is probably the least cost effective option but if you have a beloved brand, you know it will work!

I would have thought you could buy what you know fits over the Internet like on Amazon

DO NOT have anything shipped from the U.S. unless someone transports it in person! The customs fees are killer! I have stories!

There's so much more variety here in cuts, sizes, and styles there is no need to ship. You just have to put in the footwork, time, and effort to look, but the rewards are endless. That means shopping the streets and alleys too. And shopping the second hand stores. And going to all store locations cause the same stores all have different clothes. There's a surprise at every turn. I've never had such fun shopping.

Some people are born to shop, while others are reluctant or easily discouraged. It sounds like Sandra needs to hop a train to Florence. Zoë--she'd get you outfitted like the queen of Florence in no time.

14 too large--the nerve!
