Fresh off the news.

Ships will not be allowed to cruise in front of San Marco. Provisional docks to be open in Porto Marghera.

Good news , indeed !
Good news indeed. I couldn’t translate the article though. It would be nice to know all the details.
Giornata storica” pretty much says it—-an historic day. The decree some from the Italian government, not the local Venetian aport authority (which apparently has resisted taking action to ban the huge cruise ships from the Giudecca canal).
I am sure it will be picked up by the British and German English-language news services pretty quickly.

The Venetian Port Authority isn't a legislative body and without a Law they couldn't permanently ban even a paddleboat.
Provisional docks to be open in Porto Marghera.
I can't believe the provisional docks at Marghera will be ready by August 1st. The tender was awarded in June, nobody could finish in 2 months: it can't be done.
Imho, they have simply decided that cruise companies will have to wait for the end of the works at Marghera out of the Lagoon. Roberto, I am afraid that Taxpayers will find a way to refund their losses.
Here is a link to a news story in English
I'm with Dario on this one. I'll believe it when I see it. Or don't see it in this case.
Too big is too much. Glad steps are in place so the enormous ships won’t be passing so close, if all goes as indicated. Thanks for sharing the story, Roberto!
Fantastic.... it's about time!

I am sure we won't see a single cruise ship after August 1, I am because I have realized they'll use my money to anticipate the deadline to August 1st! Frankly I could have happily waited up to January 2022 as they decided in April and saved the money, but I am afraid that Unesco's opinion meant more.
Mr Draghi is the Evil genius of capitalism... now the cruise companies will get paid not to sail into the Lagoon! Wtf!
Thanks for the links!
I thought some might find this interesting. I have an MSC cruise scheduled from Venice for late October. I have seen that their 2022 cruises are departing from Trieste, but 'we' were still leaving from Venice. I had the need to check the MSC Canadian website and there is this update for sailings after July 24th.
In view of the latest decision taken by the Italian Government, please note from July 24th 2021 all Health & Safety checks (including health screening, temperature measurement and the antigen swab test) and check-in procedures (including luggage delivery), will regularly be held in Venice Maritime Station (Cruise Terminal), as per original travel program; all embarking guests will then be transferred by protected bus to Monfalcone (90 min transfer), where they will board the ship after a quick document check. No Health & Safety checks and check-in will be possible in Monfalcone. At disembarkation in Monfalcone at the end of the cruise, guests will be granted the return transfer to Venice (Cruise Terminal/Airport/Railway Station, as per original travel program).
Monfalcone may also be the port for Trieste, if you look at a map, but it is progress in clearing the canal of cruise ships - and that the cruise companies are working to comply.
I wonder what they will use that big Venice cruise port for moving forward? That Passenger mover needs to be put to use somehow?
