Landing at FCO late night

Hi guys
So I'll be flying to Rome in December and my flight is landing most probably at 1:30 am on 18th
Now the thing is my two friends that I'm supposed to meet won't get to Rome till the afternoon of 18th and that too at Ciampino
The problem is I definitely don't want to leave the airport to get to the hotel at that time. So my questions are
1)Are there any arrival lounges at tha FCO airport where I can kill a few hours till day light?
Or
2) are there any safe transportation modes at that time of the night to get to either Ciampino airport from FCO or to get to our hotel
3) is it possible to get a room at the Hilton at FCO airport just for a few hours or would I be allowed to stay in their lobby area for a few hours?
What other options do I have in this situation?
Please help!

You should get a cab to your hotel when you arrive and extend your stay there.
You could get a room at another hotel, but then you'll just need to pack up and move again in the morning, so that would be way more inconvenient.
When you arrive at the airport you'll have to get your bag and leave baggage claim. It will not be a cool place to relax.

If you're looking to save money and not take a cab, there is a bus company called Cotral that does run through the night. There will be lots of police and people cleaning and areas around central Rome are also well lit, so I wouldn't be concerned about being on your own.

Are you and your friends staying a few days in Rome after they arrive?

Then why not check into the hotel when you first arrive?

I wouldn't stay at the airport during the night, especially after a long flight. I would go to the hotel whenever you arrive and rest until your friends arrive. Just tell your hotel you will be checking in very late (after 2am).

And whey they friends arrive I would tell them to come and meet me at the hotel. You don't need to pick them up at CIA. They can come to the hotel on their own. The taxi from CIA is only 30 euro.

In terms of transportation, the taxis operate 24h/day. That is the safest and most convenient way to travel from the airport to the hotel. The fare from FCO to anywhere downtown Rome is 48 euro.

"The problem is I definitely don't want to leave the airport to get to the hotel at that time."

I'm not sure why - I agree with the other replies. Going straight to your hotel makes the most sense. Just budget for the taxi. At that hour, you'll want the door-to-door service. Have the full name, address, and phone number of the hotel written down and handy, so you can just show it to the driver (no worries about communication).

Do be sure, as Roberto says, to tell your hotel to hold the room for late arrival, and to make sure you can check in at that hour (smaller places don't always have 24 hour reception).
