Lakes Itinerary assistance

We are planning an 8 day trip at the end of July-just my husband and I.
We are flying in and out of Milan.
Here is what we are thinking -arrive in Milan-drive to Lake Garda-maybe the Limone area. But that seems to be at the far end of the lake so maybe we should stay somewhere closer on the west side. Stay 2 to 3 nights
Next go to Lake Como driving through Bergamo on the way-stay 2 nights
End on Lake Maggiore for 2 nights
Drive to Milan spend 1 night in Milan

We will have a car but would love to stay in towns where maybe we take the ferry to see different parts of the lake so we are not driving everyday.
Are we moving around too much? Any suggestions on great places to stay on any of the lakes? We like to be near restaurants, etc...but not in a super crowded area.
Thank you!

I've never driven in Europe, so my advice is of marginal use here, but I'd suggest two lakes rather than three. One of the nicest things about Lake Maggiore is the Borromean Isles. Seeing them takes a major chunk of a day, so 2 nights on Lake Maggiore would leave only a few hours for everything else. Another, not-lake-oriented thing to do in that area is to take the very scenic Centovalli train ride between Domodossola, Italy, and Locarno, Switzerland.

I have not done it but have read that you can go from Lake Maggiore to Milan airport. If I am correct, you could skip the night in Milan and add it to Lake Maggiore.

You are moving quite a bit. You will end up with one full day at Lake Garda and Como.

Also, you should consider whether it is wise to drive to Lake Garda upon arrival jet lagged.
