Interesting article in italian about overtourism on Lake Como. It starts with the story of two tourists from Colombia that, having studied Lake Como on social media, were convinced that #LakeComo (with the hashtag) was a single place and not a fairly large lake; so when they hired a guide in Como, they complained not seeing places they saw on media put that in real life were very distant. Another couple wanted to do a walking hike around the lake without realizing that it would be 160 km (that's 100 miles) long. A mayor had to close the town cemetery on week ends because tourists used the small fountain there to bathe themselves after being at the nearby beach.
The positive side is that places are so overcrowed and prices so ridicolously expensive that a raft of negative reviews on social medias is expected, so the problem may cure on its own.
