Lake Orto to Milan options

We are doing the Village Italy trip in early June, really looking forward to seeing some smaller towns in Italy. Planning an extra day in Milan at the end to see a bit of Milan and relax before the flight back. It doesn’t appear there are direct trains from Orto to Milan according to Rome2Rio app, which we use a lot. There will be 6 to 8 of us, so we are thinking van taxi maybe, 45 minutes vs 3 1/2 hours by train. Looking for thoughts on best or better options. Cheers and travel on!

This was several years ago, but on the day before the last of the tour the Guide helped us all coordinate travel to the airport, to Milan, etc. BTW, it is still my favorite tour and I've taken many more since.

I agree with Laurie Beth. The guide will help organize ongoing transit from Orta San Giulio. We stayed an extra night (don't do that) and she even organized a van for us and another couple to get in to Milan the day after the tour ended.

At that time (before Covid) it wasn't usual to book train tickets on an app so she helped one couple who were taking a longer train trip book their tickets when we were in Levanto, the stop before Orta.

This is a fun tour!

BTW, Rome2Rio may not give you all the options. In this instance I think there is always a change at Novara but you'll do better to search on the TrenItalia website or app.

I will confirm the prior posts. I took this tour in 2022 and travelled to Milan after the tour ended. Several days into the tour, the guide will collect information about everyone’s travel plans/flights. The guide will then coordinate transportation for everyone. Four of us plus the guide shared a private car from Lake Orta to Milan. The card dropped each of us at our respective hotels and the guide at the train station. I don’t remember the exact cost but I believe it was maybe about 30Euro per person.

I can confirm that your guide will coordinate transport. I took tge VI tour in September. Six of us shared a taxi to Malpensa, where a few of us took the Malpensa Express to Milan Centrale to go elsewhere. Ruth our guide made it very easy for everyone.

You will love the Village Italy tour. It is fantastic and lots of fun.
