Lake Orta will be the last stop of our trip; coming from the Cinque Terra, then flying out of Milan. What type of transportation is best/cheapest to and from Milan from Lake Orta? And how long does it take? We also want to go to a cooking class in Varenna, what is the distance/timing/cost/mode of transport to get to and from Varenna from Lake Orta?

I took the train from Orta into Milan at the end of my Village Italy tour. It was very easy and not expensive and it took about 1 hour. It did require a train transfer but it was no problem. I enjoyed the train ride through the countryside and then seeing the
outskirts of Milan.
