It is unclear to me online if the boat from Stresa to Locarno can also be taken
one way in the other direction. We would actually be getting on in Ascona.
It looks like it is a high speed boat (perhaps one of the hydrofoils) since the
trip is less than two hours. Has anyone taken this? Thank you so much.

Yes. The last one departs Ascona at 1640 hours.
I have used the boats between Luino and Locarno. Some runs are aboard hydrofoils, some aboard slower boats.
