Do we need reservations ahead of time for the hop on/hop off ferry around Lake Maggiore in mid September? The Viator tours have some bad ratings and people in their reviews say they wished they just took the "ferry" rather than the boat tour. Any recommendations for ferry travel on the lake?
Don’t waste your money on Viator! You don’t need tickets in advance. Just go to the official ticket counter and purchase your tickets when you want to travel. In Stresa, there’s a very helpful TI next to the building where you buy the tickets and they can give you a timetable and help you figure out where you want to go and which combo ticket is best.
I also would not bother with Viatour, as it's very easy to buy tickets locally. Which towns are you planning to visit, and which town will you be staying in? Last time I stayed in Stresa, the hotel owner set up all the tickets for me, which was very convenient.
I imagine you've had a look at this - https://www.navigazionelaghi.it/en/tickets-and-timetables-lake-maggiore/ .
There is also a ticket office next to the docks in Baveno, very easy to find, as is the one in Stresa.
Honestly, it couldn't be easier.
Do it on your own - everything on the island is easy to understand, and the little map they give you has it all. Hope you like white peacocks!!
I was wearing the hat I bought there a couple of years ago, today - in Frankfurt of all places.
So easy, really.
Thank you so much!! Excellent information!!
