What town and hotel in Lake Maggiore area would you locate for 3-4 days of touring area. Suggestions for area visits or sights.

I would stay in Stresa at Grand Hotel es les Borromes or at Il Sole di Ranco in Ranco.

Last time I went, a few years back, was in Stresa at this hotel, right in front of the ferry dock plaza.
Stresa is pretty and perfect to visit the Borromeo Islands.

We were just in Stresa this past September
Stayed at Speranza au Lac ( Roberto’s recommendation)
Our room had a fabulous lake view
Enjoyed our time very much, wished we had stayed longer

Stresa is the main centre.
We were very happy just nearby at Baveno which also has boats to the islands and Stresa.

Will you have a rental car, or using public transportation?
We lived in Verbania for 2 1/2 years, across the bay from Stresa.
Based on your transportation answer can provide lots of advice.
Also, e we hat time of year?
Are you flying in or out of Milan?

We've stayed in both Stresa and Locarno - they were both fantastic but Stresa is a tad bit more touristy IMO
