Lake Maggiore accommodation?

Hi,
We are a family of four (kids ages almost 4 and 9) traveling to Italy the first week of July.
We are hoping Lake Maggiore will be a good way to relax and settle into Italy and get over jet lag our first three nights. We fly into Milan (MXP).
I've narrowed my accommodations down to La Luna del Porto in Stresa and Cannero Lakeside Hotel in Cannero Riviera.

Which would you recommend? I'm looking for some place that will be easy to get to from MXP (not sure if we will take the bus or rent a car) and not too long a distance. Parking is a plus since we may drive (which Cannero Lakeside has and La Luna does not). And of course once we get there would prefer not to drive - so a place where we can take the ferry and walk or take buses/trains is ideal. Once there we hope to check out the islands, take a cablecar or two, possibly check out Lake Orca, and swim in the lake. Thanks for any thoughts.
PS From there we will either head to the Italian Riveria or head to Tuscany.

For your two choices, the La Luna seems like the option that better fits your criteria. It's in Stresa and aa 5-minute walk to the ferries that go out to Isola Bella, etc., and you will be walking distance to the quaint pedestrian restaurant/shop area. Also, there's the nice promenade to walk off the jet lag. You could do everything except check out Lake Orca without a car.

Your other option is a 30-minute drive to catch a ferry; you would need to drive every place. It looks like a nicer hotel, but a different environment - more the intention of staying in the Cannero village.

Thanks Jean. Actually the hotel says there's a ferry stop in front of the hotel which is the only reason why I'm considering it...

Stresa is closer to the airport and the ferry hub to visit the Borromee islands. It's also closer to lake Orta (Orta San Giulio) which is a must. If you don't rent a car Cannero is not a viable option. You can find hotels with parking in Stresa. I generally stay at the Milano Speranza Hotel (which has parking arrangement with another hotel in the next block), located in front of the ferry dock. Cannero is close to Cannobio, which is a must see.

I was in Stressa for a few days this past September without a car. If you won't use a car consider picking it up after you Stressa trip. There are multiple ways from the airport to get directly to Stressa without having to go into Milan (Rick's Book has those details). I went there from Milan and took the train right into Stressa. Piece of cake.

La Luna is a good location, your 2 blocks outside of the main edge of town. It's all very walkable. I stayed a few blocks from there and it was about a 15 minute walk from the train station, but with kids maybe a little longer.
