We have friends who live Pisa who invited us to their summer home for two nights. Anfo is near Lake Idro and it seems difficult to get to by public transportation. We will be on train from Varenna to Brescia. From there they haven't offered to come down to pick us up. It seems to be along and very inconvenient to get up to Anfo. We wonder if it is worth it or just see our friends when they visit us in San Francisco Bay Area! Any suggestions?

Maybe they think you'll have a rental car. But there are also a few direct buses per day from Brescia to Anfo on bus LN013, departing from the SIA bus stop, across the street from Brescia train station.

Really appreciation this specific information. Thanks so so much!! We can time our arrival and even look around Brescia if we need to kill time. How long is the bus trip?

The early departures I saw were about 1.5 hours. Try the schedule search, though I don't know how far out it's displayed.
