We may be taking a family member who is 87 years old to Lake Garda. He is ambulatory, uses a cane, but cannot walk far. He has been there a couple times before in his lifetime; his mother and father are from Riva del Garda. He really wants to see it one more time. We will be staying in Riva but I would like your opinion on what other towns around the lake would be advisable for us. I know some are very steep and we would want to avoid those. Thanks so much.
Nice and flat- Malcesine and Saló
Stay in Riva. That is probably where your family member would like to stay anyhow..
Riva is the largest town in the north lake, therefore the town with most accommodations. I’m sure you can find a place there and Riva is the most flat of the north lake towns.
(Is your relative former Senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum? His parents were also from Riva del Garda).
No, Roberto, our relative is definitely not Rick Santorum! I think I knew that about Santorum's relatives but had forgotten.
Actually, we WILL be staying in Riva but I meant to ask what other towns we might visit by boat around the lake that would not be too difficult for him to get around in. I know Limone is steep and I thought I read that so was Malcesine but maybe I'm wrong about that. I think we will skip Sirmione because of crowds.
Has anyone been to the garden tour on Isola del Garda? Our relative loves gardens. Thanks.
Malcesine and Limone for sure. Limone isn’t steep, the main alleys are near the water level.
Crowds or not Sirmione is worth a visit. Maybe if you avoid weekends it might be less crowded. The problem is the distance. That’s the farthest you can go with the ferry, but it would be a nice relaxing ride. I’ve never been to Isola Del Garda, so can’t advise.
