Lake Garda - which towns and best ways to get there from Peschiera del Garda

hello, i am looking at possibly taking a day drip from venice to lake garda in early march. my first thoughts:

take early train from venice to Peschiera del Garda.
take ferry to Malcesine in order to do the Malcesine Monte Baldo cableway.

has anyone done this before? i am worried about a long ferry ride and I've seen other ways to get there like taking a bus for example. it seems to take the same time so i think the ferry would be better for pictures along the lake.

or should i just stay in the Desenzano del Garda or Peschiera del Garda area?

any advice and or recommendations would be great

ciao.

It's very easy to take one of the ferries from Peschiera del Garda to Malcesine. As I recall, the dock is about a 15 minute walk from the rail station. If you'd prefer not to walk, there are usually taxis waiting at the station.

You can check the details on ferry travel on this website - https://www.navigazionelaghi.it/en/tickets-and-timetables-lake-garda/ . If you take one of the rapid boats, travel time to Malecesine is 2H:22M (cost is slightly higher for those). Schedules may change, so be sure to check just prior to your trip.

Travel by bus is certainly an option, but it's really nice to see the towns along the lake from a boat.

Saló on the SW part of Lake Garda is a lovely town. It was recommended to us by an Italian friend and there were few if any other Americans there. Nice shops, marina.

For a daytrip from Venice, in early March with short days, you don’t want to be spending 3-4 4 hours each way to get to Malcescine. Someplace much closer to Peschiera del Garda, such as Sirmione, would be bette, if there are good ferry connections from there. If not, there is a short ferry ride from Desanzano, which is only a bit longer on the train from Verona than Peschiera.

This is the highlight of Sirmione, for us:
