Lake Garda help!!

We will be traveling from Florence to Salzburg and will be stopping in Lake Garda for a day or so. There are so many cities surrounding the Lake! We're looking for suggestions of moderately priced hotels which are located in towns which we can tour. Help! :)

We have always enjoyed Sirmione. It is a magical, wonderful place at the bottom of the lake. It is on a peninsula east of Desenzano del Garda. If you stay here stay in the old part of the city after the castle bridge. Much more character. Lots of hotels and a nice tourist info spot to make reservations for you. Just give them a price range and they will do the rest.

Haven't stayed here but the place looks very nice. on the east side of the lake. Torri del Benaco

Depending on when you are going to be there, be aware that Lake Garda in the summer months is a very busy place. Lots of folks swimming and windsurfing. Seems to be a great deal of German tourists.

Riva del Garda at the top of the lake also gets good reviews.

Looks like also a bunch of places to stay. in all the places.

We have always driven up the west side of the lake. It has spectacular views with the road hanging on the side of the cliffs. There are tunnels and galleries for the road to pass through.

I am not sure what you consider moderately priced we have a lakefront view room, double with breakfast and if you have a car free parking at Hotel Marconi in Sirmione 115 euro this year.

Hi Matt,
I second Ron's recommendation to see Sirmione - it really is a magical place. We were staying outside of Verona and decided to take a day trip to the Lake Garda area. We unknowingly stumbled upon Sirmione and absolutely loved it there - we ended up spending most of the day there and unfortunately only had time to drive in/out of Desenzano (? sp) It is another town on the lake just a short distance from Sirmione. It too looked nice but we didn't get much of an opportunity to explore it.

Sirmone all the way! It isn't a place you should 'tour'. You should go to relax. Watch the water, have a beer or an ice cream, take a stroll.

Lake Garda is beautiful. We have stayed in the lakeside town of Limone, and enjoyed it very much. The town is small; visitors like to stroll along the quay in the evening, and it is quiet. If you are into night-life or wind-surfing, etc., stay somewhere else. This little town is for relaxing. Charlie Robinson, Lodi, California
