Lake Garda

Sirmione is not the best location for access, as there's no rail station. It can also be dreadfully crowded at times, so not the most pleasant experience. You'd have to use a bus or taxi from Peschiera del Garda or Desenzano or use the boats. I'd suggest Peschiera as it's got good rail access and easy access to the boats.

We had wonderful stays in Saló and Malcesine.

We always stay in Bardolino - or rather a camping site between Bardolino and Garda, but camping may not be for everyone.

It would help if we know when, how long, where you are coming from, where you are going to.

I'm also interested in where to stay if you only have one night at Lake Garda?

With only one night, Peschiera del Garda would be my suggestion. Hotel Garden is right next to the station so that's a convenient choice.
