Lake Garda

In September we will fly into Venice, then we plan to go to Castelrotto for two nights, somewhere in lake Garda for three nights, Tuscany and Umbria for seven nights, Ravello for five nights and then Rome for two nights before flying home. We have been to Italy several times and last year we were in Bellagio and absolutely loved it. The hotel where we stayed was just outside of town and had breathtaking views of the lake and mountains. We are looking for somewhere like that on lake Garda. The view is most important to us and we don't mind a little bit of touristy but prefer somewhere low key where there are restaurants. I have searched the helpline and saw that Roberto recommended Limone, but I am not sure if it is too remote.

Any suggestions from those that love Lake Garda?

April,

I've also been trying to plan a visit to Lago di Garda, but unfortunately the public transportation is a bit more challenging there. The easiest place to reach is Sirmione as its close to rail lines. Limone and Malcesine are reachable by bus or ferry, which takes longer.

I'll be interested to have a look at the replies here, as I'd also like to visit Limone, but have been thinking of scratching it off the list.

Happy travels!

Thank you Ken. You always offer such great advice! :)
We will have a car (I know, I know..... ZTL's etc. :)) So we are really able to go anywhere on the Lake. We may take some day trips, but we may also just ferry around the lake. We really want to have that flexibility. We visited Valpolicella last year when we were in Verona and would consider a return day trip on this visit too.

Limone is not hard at all to reach. Coming from Castelrotto you take the freeway down toward Verona. The exit you take is Rovereto Sud/Lago Garda Nord. Follow directions to Lago di Garda or Riva. Eventually you will be around Torbole. At the roundabout you will follow directions to Riva, which is right there at the very tip of the lake, next to Torbole. At Riva look for signs to Salo'. Limone is just 15 min drive after Riva along the western shore of the lake. Malcesine on the eastern side is also pretty, but Limone is my favorite.

Thank you Roberto. Do you have any particular lodging in Limone that you recommend? I am not sure if there is a particular part of town that we should try to stay in.

Thank you!

I took Roberto's advice and researched Limone. It seems to be touristy for Germans and Italians so I am looking forward to the hotel that we chose that is just a short walk from town. It is Hotel Locanda Ruscello Garnì. We'll report back later this year on the trip.
