We are thinking of going to Lake Garda and specifically Malcesine next fall in September. Any hotel recommendations would be greatly appreciated and also if this is a good home base for exploring the area for 6-7 nights. Thank you!
It would help to know what you are interested in "exploring"? Hiking? Wine? other towns?
hey hey Patti
just seems like lake garda, malcesine and other towns on the lake is very popular on this italy forum within the last 2 months with same questions you are asking, look at some of the posts.
do a search at top of page with lake garda/malcesine for many answers/thoughts/recommendations. some pros & cons. crowded places, traffic in towns and on the roads. so much to see and do, gorgeous lake & mountain views. lake garda and lake maggiore are getting more popular recently, staying away from crowded lake como, with social media/instagram blowing it up, day trippers, blue & yellow books everywhere, wishing for a glimpse of george clooney, sylvester stallone, madonna LOL
lakegardatravel.net (look at town guides & getting around) if you rent a car, it is mandatory to have an IDP (aaa.com/IDP) for each driver). sirmione is another town that has become so overcrowded like a can of sardines, many private tours/van tours/trains/taxis/shuttles from milan area or verona area
several years ago end of september, we drove from venice to bardolino for their annual wine festival "festa dell' uva", it was fabulous and so much fun (eat drink & be merry, check it out) we double booked our apartment in venice, rented car, stayed at hotel nettuno bardolino and got the party started.
maybe early to book, email hotel to book early. busy time of year "not much off season anymore", oilve oil/wine festivals, wine tasting, ferry rides, gardens, lemon farms, cable car ride monte baldo "funivia del baldo" for views of lake.
keep asking, posters are great here, go enjoy have fun and have some gelato ; )
