Lake Garda

We are planning a trip to northern Italy and Tuscany May 2014. We will be renting a car. We plan to spend four or five days in Lake Garda area and drive up to maybe Bolzano area and a day in Verona before we drive to Tuscany for four or five more days. My question is what Lake Garda towns are both beautiful as well as not too far from the roads we would want to take to go to Bolzano and Verona and other towns along the lake? Thanks for your input!

Malcasine has a nice gondola that goes up the mountain for hikling and great views of the lake from high up. Road at the north end of the lake drops right down to the A-22 connecting Bolzano and Verona.

Malcescine is indeed a charming town. We spent3 nights in April there and loved it. Very easy to connect to the A22 at Roverto from Riva at the north end.

Every town in the north lake (where the lake narrows) is nice. My wife and I like Limone the best. But Malcesine, Torri, Torbole, Gargnano, Riva are all very nice.

I agree that Limone and Gargnano are charming towns. Be sure and visit the Castel Lemon House in Limone. Absolutely beautiful to wander through. And be sure to pick up some Lemoncello! We really enjoyed the evening we spent in Gargnano, had a nice dinner at a table along the lake, it was a perfect setting.
