Lake Garda 4 nights: where to stay and things to see/do

Hi, my wife and I are having trouble deciding on where to stay for the 4 night Lake Garda portion of our Italy trip in September. We'll be coming off a 5 day trek in the Dolomites and arriving by bus and train. We head to Venice after that for a night before flying out of VCE (also spending a night there at the beginning of the trip). We went to Norway a couple years ago and really enjoyed staying Aurlandsvagen instead of nearby Flam, if that context helps at all.

We're mid-30s. I don't think we'll want to hike much or take a cable car since we'll have just been in the Dolomites. We want to relax, swim, eat good food, enjoy the beauty/wander towns and not be too busy but not bored either. Obviously we'd like to avoid overly crowded spots (skipping Sirmione). With 4 nights, I'd like to stay 2 nights in at least one place so we're not traveling everyday. No car. Any thoughts? I'm probably being too picky and/or overthinking it.

My initial interests are Riva del Garda, Gargnano, and Torri del Benaco, but I'm open to others. I was thinking 2 nights in Riva because I think we'll just want to swim and relax after our trek. I'm also really interested in going to Canale di Tenno nearby or maybe Arco. Then the western shore is really intriguing because I think it'll be quiet and less touristy (hence being interested in Gargnano over Limone). Then Torri del Benaco because it'll be quieter than nearby Malcesine but still be a nice spot with good food and the aesthetic we expect. And it'll make getting to Venice easier than it'd be coming from the western shore.

Y'all have any thoughts? Is 2 nights in Riva, 1 in Gargnano and 2 in Torri crazy? Should we skip the West all together and just take a ferry from Torri or Malchesine for a half day?

I'd love to hear about your trips! Thanks

I used to stay in Gardone Riviera and then travel all over the lake by steamer, which I really enjoyed.
I don't like packing and unpacking.
Salo is charming.
Gargnano is good for small sandy beach (and windsurfing), but not a pictureque town.
Torri is pretty, and there is a small car ferry which runs across to Maderno.
And if you have an interest in sailing:

Choose one spot and stay put. You can visit I it all from one location. I like the north side of the lake (Malcesine, Limone, Riva), but further south Garda and Bardolino are not bad.

hey hey tcaggianomf
welcome aboard the forum. lots to think about staying on lake garda to relax and enjoy. to be honest pick one town/village and stay there, different ways to travel around lake without a car. the roads can be crazy, busy with bumper to bumper traffic & september still a part of high season and travelers spending more time on lake garda than the crowds on lake como nowdays.
you are not relaxing with 3 changes. check-in times 3-4pm and check-out times 10-11am.
we stayed in bardolino (hotel nettuno) late september/early october several years ago for their annual wine festival "festa dell'uva" right on the lake. it was fabulous (eat drink & be merry"). loved the small town with small center, restaurants, shops, promenade walkway along the lake, near transportation (we had a car" drove from venice for festival and back to venice for a week greek island cruise) there is a dock to board a ferry to visit other towns/villages.
many different accomodations: hotels, apartments, camping resorts on the lake offering "mobile homes with some having hot tubs, kitchenettes, living rooms, porches/lanais to enjoy views, shops, restaurants, laundry, activities like pools/bikes/beaches
(delgarda.it campinglido.it campingfossalta.com campingsanfrancesco.com camping-bellavista.it) look for specials, stay 4 nights pay for 3.
booking.com
look at other properties on either side of lake. stayed lower part of lake for easy transport, 2 train stations nearby. just thought best to stay in apartment/camping resort for more room, kitchen to cook if need be, near amenities
isoladelgarda.com
visit to a family owned garden on the lake
lakegardatravel.net
look at headers (things to do click markets, getting around showing transportation ideas. check boat/ferry rides to towns on the lake. check times/days length of the rides may take few hours, buses.
getyourguide.com (lake garda) (a reseller of things to do, it's a love hate sight for people. we've used them in lots of other big cities with no issues.
search for things , click them and scroll down to see who offers them with their own website maybe for a better price,
what time is your flight out of venice to return home? many are ugly dark thirty hour (6am to 7am) back to states. we have stayed at best western titian inn near airport. i think they have a shuttle or ask front desk for taxi short ride to airport. we also like to grab something to eat, like a wrap/sandwich.pick up drink at airport if food available. have a great trip, hope this helps. enjoy

Thank you all so much! This is great info. It definitely helps. Isola del Garda looks beautiful and I hadn't heard about it.
Our flight out of Venice is 9:30am, so it's not too bad.
